Today's painting has lines, circles and spirals drawn on with Tulip Slick fabric paint. Here it is most visible on the left of the painting. Tulip Slick is a 3D paint that holds it's form and once dry, it can be painted over.
The fabric paint comes in a plastic bottle and has a very useful fine nozzle, which I shall reuse once the fabric paint is finished.
More texture has been applied on top with some collage and, of course, many paint layers.
I'm amazed at the number of materials use have come up with to add texture. Remind me, do you work most with acrylic paint? Since most of my work until the last year has been watercolor I have been fixated on everything I use being archival materials that are acid free and won't affect my paper. Since I still work on paper, but paint with acrylic, I haven't changed that approach but am wondering if I might have more leaway with acrylic provided I get a layer of acrylic on the paper before I apply the other materials. Thoughts?
April, I am used to working in pure watercolours or pure oils and that is straight-forward when it comes to longevity.
Now I am using acrylics, where possible, I am using archival and top quality materials, but occasionally something else will creep in. I have a feeling that so long as the majority is good and it is all sealed in medium and varnished with UV varnish, all will be reasonably well. Time will tell!
Tulip!!! Why have I never thought of that?? They have lots of awesome colors. I love the texture in this, the loose line work. The colors just pop and wake you up!
