8"x8" on 300gsm Watercolour Paper |
Colours used were Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna, Paynes Gray (with a very tiny touch of Cyan) and White.
I never normally use tube blacks or greys, preferring to mix my own, but I am very pleased with how nice the Paynes Gray is, especially when added to other colours. It tints beautifully too and makes lovely soft greys.

Rolina, wohoo .. we got our paintings at the challenge next to each other today!!!
Beautiful painting today. Interesting composition. I love the color tones in this one.
I like payne grey too and try to avoid black from tube because I get too black paintings with that.

Yay, we are together - that is cool!
Thanks for your kind comment and I agree about black, it can become too dominant if one isn't very careful.
Very soft and appealing painting, Rolina. Yes, you CAN paint in neutrals. I didn't doubt it for a minute!
Thanks so much Sandy - yes, I can if I try!
well done!!
reminds me I need to order more paynes grey, use it a lot with painting :)
So lovely Rolina! I love how the blue transitions to the darker corners. So soft. Beautiful composition!
Thanks Jennifer, I shall use more now I know how versatile it is.
Thanks Sheila, I love using soft edges, it keeps things flowing.
I think of all of your abstractions this one has caught my heart the most. Why? I like bright colors and have loved all your other paintings, but it is not just the neutral colors... its the circles. The repeat of them is wonderful!
lovely palette!
Rolina,
I love the subtle colors - it is a beautiful composition!
Thanks Julie, the smaller ones were a last minute addition, too!
Thanks Liz, I may have to revisit it soon!
Love this, the colours you have developed from your limited palette are outstanding. Lovely composition.
Thanks Mick, it was fun to challenge myself with this one!
Thanks Connie (sorry the comments come at me out of order), neutrals aren't so bad, after all!
Check off another experiment. Well done. Neutrals come in handy sometimes, but I think you are like me and just love the pop of color.
