Summer of Colour - Week 3

Actually finishing earlier this week, here are two pieces completed for the Summer of Colour challenge using two purples and a yellow.  The first one I use the purples with just a touch of yellow and the second one uses a wash of yellow over the entire painting, apart from the reserved shapes, with more layers of yellow in some selected areas.

I couldn't choose a favourite, so I am including both!

Here are the mixes I used:  The darker purple is ultramarine and magenta, the lighter purple is cerulean, magenta and white and the yellow is cad yellow medium with a little white.

Oooh, Rolina, the mostly blue/purple one is delicious! It absolutely resonates with me and I love it. The yellower one is gorgeous in its own right but there is something about the bluer one - I love it to pieces!

GORGEOUS!!!!

I like the first one better but only because it has more purple.

They are both extremely successful and vibrant. <3

I can't decide which one I love most! I think maybe the first one wins, I love those little 'pops' of yellow.

That darker shade is so gorgeous! Love both of these, and I really like that texture. Is it canvas?

Denthe, yes it is canvas, just taped to a board.

Cool paintings, both of them, but I do have a favourite and that is the mostly purple one. There's a magical feel to it, like someone said before. Makes me think of a a warm starry night. Thanks for popping in and commenting in my blog!

Sometimes when I'm working with a color combo, it's hard for me to decide which color to emphasize and which one to use as an accent. Why did I never think of doing what you have done here--making two different pieces in order to try it both ways! Thanks for the idea. :)

I simply ADORE your abstract art. You make the very best abstracts. And I would never be able to choose, either.
