Day 27 - Tyvek

This is my first attempt at using Tyvek (bottom left) in a painting.  First of all I painted it and then I ironed it to get the "bubble" effect and then I attached it to the substrate with the first layers of texture.

After several layers of painting, I decided it wasn't integrating enough into the rest of the work, so I glued a large sheet of tissue, before applying more paint.

If I had applied the Tyvek further on in the painting, on top of complex layers of paint, it would have been very interesting to burn it with a heat gun to reveal those layers.  Unfortunately, it was just white substrate underneath in this instance.  Something to try again, I think!

This is very interesting. You are using Tyvek (plastic house wrap?) in the lower left? It is hard for me to visualize what exactly your pieces look like in person, but I know they must be spectacular! This one has a floral feel to me.

Rolina,
I'm not sure I understand about the Tyvek - but I love the piece!!!

I love the scribbles, and the writing in the corner. Looks like an unearthed secret message... mystery and intrigue :)

Thanks Sandy, Connie and Sheila,
yes it is the same stuff used on roofs and some envelopes. It does cool things when heated and I thought the bubbles looked a bit like dry stone walls.

I also wish I could see it up close or at least my computer would give me a better view of the texture. But I love the piece, it just flows....

Thanks Ronda, almost all of my paintings look better in real life, one of the problems with a January challenge in Scotland is lack of light for photographs.

cool, reminds me of a flower in the lower corner :)
had to look up what Tyvek was, will have to see if there is any around and have a play with it :)

How did I miss this yesterday. I love how you balanced the large fuscia area with the swirl on the cyan. Oh and the yellow details really pull me in. Love this.

I've been checking out your individual paintings. They are all so beautiful. Keep experimenting with these techniques. You are really on to something.
